Amazon’s Alexa is always getting smarter when it comes to understanding regional language. To help boost Alexa's British vocabulary even more, we worked with TV wordsmith Susie Dent to add hundreds of alternative local words and phrases. From "how do?" to "toodle pip", to alternative words for bread roll, snack time, and even different names for terrestrial isopods, most commonly known as “woodlice”.
Teaching the nuances of human language is one of the most difficult AI challenges, so we're glad it touched a nerve with national, regional and international media generating over 180 pieces of coverage from the BBC Radio 4 Today programme to This Morning to The Times and the front page of Yorkshire Post.
Thanks, cheers, ta Susie.
